Fyre Festival is a Disaster even FEMA Can’t Clean Up

Fyre Festival was supposed to be the luxury answer to mega music festivals like Coachella but it ended up being a dumpster fyre instead. If you haven’t heard of Fyre Festival then you are out of the loop because that’s all anyone seems to be talking about. A music festival claiming to bring luxury amenities to a private island in the Bahamas with top music acts and accommodations fit for royalty. That’s what people were promised when they ditched out up to $10,000 for a ticket, but what they got was described as “the Hunger Games.”

The festival was organized by Ja Rule, yes that same Ja Rule and 25-year-old entrepreneur Billy McFarland who has had a history of promising big things only to fail when it was time to deliver. They promised big music acts, cash free festival experience, with lavish bungalows and a beautiful tropical vacation. Instead of partying on yachts with the celebrity models used to promote the event, festival goers were subject to basically a tent city with cheese sandwiches and no organization at all. People were stranded on this desolate island that was more apt to film a Mad Max sequel than a luxury event.

The Monday following the event the organizers were served a $100 million dollar class-action lawsuit claiming fraud and subjecting guests to dangerous conditions. The lawsuit claims that the organizers were just doing a get-rich-quick scam from the beginning and that they knew the festival would be a failure and even told employees not to attend.

Ja Rule made a statement on Instagram apologizing to guests saying the event was not a scam and things just got out of control. The apology may end up getting Ja Rule into more legal trouble since he takes blame for the disastrous event.

With bands like Blink 182 and Migos cancelling just days before the event claiming that the event wasn’t organized enough should have tipped people off to the upcoming demise.

The event organizers promised to refund everyone’s money and are even saying they will have an event next year on U.S. soil to make up for this event’s disastrous results.

I’m not sure if I would trust these guys to throw a kids birthday party let alone plan another music festival. Billy McFarland has been in trouble before by not delivering what he promised when he started the failed credit card /concierge company Magnises. This company cancelled many trips it booked for college students just days before their international trips were scheduled.

This disaster just goes to show you how our culture has become obsessed with music festivals and opulent, luxurious experiences.

Maybe this goes to show you that being the first isn’t always the best.
