How to Keep Your Wig in Prime Condition During the Winter Months
With winter having already reached many parts of the U.S., keeping your wig looking and performing at its best during frosty weather can be a bit more challenging. But not impossible.
Whether you’re a Floridian who bought your wigs in Miami but plan to visit friends and family in a region of the country that typically experiences harsh winters, or whether you frequently step out to snowy scenes, with a little extra care, you can keep your wig looking incredible throughout the entire winter season.
From human hair wigs to synthetic ones, whatever you wear, here are some tips for protecting your wig during winter:
Keep your wig hydrated.
Human hair wigs, in particular, can struggle to retain their moisture when exposed to the cold and dry air of winter and are at risk of becoming dry, brittle, and prone to breaking. To avoid this, and to keep your wig looking healthy and smooth, you should use a conditioner designed specifically for wigs every time you wash it. You may also choose to give your wig a deep conditioning treatment once a week or use leave-in conditioners for added gloss and softness.
Choose a wig with a cotton liner.
If you wear wigs daily and find that your head feels unbearably cold when you step outside during cold weather, you may benefit from a wig with a high-quality cotton liner that makes wearing a wig a much gentler, smoother, and warmer experience.
Prevent static and frizz by wearing natural fibers.
Just as with natural hair, the low humidity of the winter months can make static and frizz a big, unsightly problem for wearers of wigs. But, by avoiding clothes that are made of synthetic materials and choosing items made of natural fibers instead, you should be able to prevent static electricity. You may also find that using a mild serum helps to stop your hair from ‘flying away’ and keeps the wig looking luscious and glossy. Note that serum should only be used sparingly; otherwise, it tends to weigh hair down.
Wear a hat or loose scarf.
Cold, dry air can cause a lot of problems for human hair wigs, but by opting to wear a loose-fitting hat or wrapping a scarf loosely over your head while outside, you can help keep your hair looking pristine and healthy. Look for wigs with a soft inner lining for an added layer of comfort during the winter months.
Experiment with styles inspired by fall.
If you want to experiment with styles that will look extra special for the festive season, lace top wigs could help you effortlessly achieve them. When wearing a lace top wig, you’ll find you can create partings that look entirely realistic, giving you the chance to choose a style that will turn heads at any party or seasonal event. Make your festive look even more spectacular by upgrading from synthetic wigs to European hair wigs for colours and textures that look amazing, whatever the weather.
Winter might mean cozy nights by the fire and the wearing of hats and gloves when out and about, but there’s no reason why your wig should look any less stunning or be any less comfortable to wear throughout the winter season, provided you follow the simple tips above.
