Air Force One is the most recognizable plane and presence of the sky (and land!) in the world – just as it should! It carries the President of the United States!
Franklin D. Roosevelt would be the first President to enjoy the privilege of flying in a plane while in office. However, it was a modified Douglas Dolphin amphibious flying boat – a long shot from the aircraft of modern-day Presidents. Funny enough, no one is positive that he actually flew in the aircraft.
Nonetheless, the tradition continued.
Military planes were converted and featured all the latest and greatest technology and defensive systems to transport and protect the POTUS in times of need.
Eventually, the planes were given The First Lady treatment. We have to thank First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy for giving the plane it’s beautiful two-tone blue paint job that has been seen for decades.
