The Fastest Jets From The Last 70 Years

In 1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright conducted the first successful flight for approximately 12 seconds near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Their top speed – 30 miles per hour. Four short decades later, the planes of World War 2 were able to hit 475 mph, an unbelievable speed increase of nearly 1500%. Since that time, planes and jets have only gotten faster and faster. It’s almost hard to keep up!

It should come as no surprise that military and research planes bring the quickest and most exciting advances to top speed, but there a few commercial jets that give the big guys a run for their money. Still, the fastest jets of today are all about supersonic (600 – 900 mph) and hypersonic speeds (4,000+ mph). You might be surprised to see the fastest jet in existence but don’t take our word for it, check it out!
