Vintage Photos That Show Just How Glamorous Flying Used To Be

Baggage fees, overcrowding, and delays. When you think of air travel in today’s age, “luxurious” is probably the last word that comes to mind. That wasn’t always the case, however.

In the ’60s and ’70s, airlines would spare no expense to provide their passengers with the utmost comfort and extravagance during their flight.

Porcelain teacups, silverware, and real chefs serving five-star meals – far from the microwave food we get today. Spacious seats, sleeping quarters, and full bars were just some of the things you could experience in the golden age of flying. Not to mention these photos were taken before they had different classes on planes, so everyone got the royal treatment.

Where to Find The Clearest Water In The World

If you’re looking for a vacation destination that is sure to have some great underwater visibility, or even just stunning water to look at and occasionally dip your toes in, then consider some of these places that have the clearest water in the world.

Whenever the water is strikingly clear it is so hard to do anything but just stare at it. Something about the crisp, clean, picturesque clear blue water that is so hard to take your eyes off. Clear water is so beautiful and so fun to swim in or snorkel in and best of all scuba dive in. When you think crystal clear you usually either think of a beach in the Caribbean or a fresh mountain spring, but there are plenty of lakes and rivers that are just as beautiful and fun places you definitely need to check out.

If you’re looking for a vacation destination that is sure to have some great underwater visibility, or even just stunning water to look at and occasionally dip your toes in, then consider some of these places that have the clearest water in the world.

Five Flower Lake, China

Let’s start in China where a UNESCO World Heritage site named Jiuzhaigou Valley Scenic is home to the Five Flower Lake. Clear lakes are a thing of beauty because you can see the colors change due to what is at the bottom of the lake or how shallow the lake really is. Parts of this lake look dark blue, parts are green and there are even parts of the water that appear purple. The water isn’t the only thing to enjoy here, the mountains and forest that surround the lake are a spectacle in their own right and you will have no shortage of incredible views no matter where you look. You can find an ancient tree trunk in the lake or a majestic waterfall that eventually feeds into the lake. Five Flower Lake is definitely a beautiful location.

Radhanagar Beach, Andaman Islands

Radhanagar Beach is a tough spot to get to, seeing as it is amongst the 300 Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal, but trust us, it’s worth it.

The diving and snorkeling around this island are spectacular due to the jaw-dropping visibility you will find beneath the water. Plus, after you’re done, you can stick around the beautiful white sand beach and catch a breath-taking sunset. Just make sure you’re going in the right time of year because monsoon season begins in late May.

Maldives

Maldives is a great option to travel to since it offers plenty of extraordinary resorts with some super-warm clear water to snorkel or dive in. You won’t just see tiny tropical fish swimming around coral reefs here, you can also head out to the deep water and check out whale sharks manta rays and sea turtles.

Blue Lake, New Zealand

This lake is one you can’t swim in, but the water looks so cool it is definitely worth taking the hike out to. Why is it so great you ask? Well because it is actually considered to be the clearest lake in the whole world, which means you can see 76 meters down into this lake. For comparison’s sake, if you filled this lake with distilled water, you could only see four meters deeper. Now that’s some clear water.

Check out this list and stay in style at one of the hippest hotels on planet Earth because staying somewhere hip means that you are hip as well.

Staying at a hotel should add to your trip, not detract from it. But we have all had that experience of staying somewhere terrible and while you may be able to laugh about it later, it definitely takes a toll on your trip. Well, these hotels are the exact opposite, they are the coolest, neatest, and hippest hotels all across the world that we can’t get enough of. When you stay here you will love it so much you’ll want to tongue-kiss the bellhop.

So check out this list and stay in style at one of the hippest hotels on planet Earth.

ACME Hotel, Chicago Illinois

The Windy City is home to the amazing and unreal ACME Hotel. This is where Wile E. Coyote loves to stay when he visits Chicago. There is a great cocktail bar hidden in here, and an out of this world bagel shop on the bottom floor. But that’s nothing compared to the awesomeness that is the hotel rooms. A lot of places have a nice lobby and bar but the rooms are just average, this place is definitely not one of those hotels. You’ll have great views, be in a great location and an amazing jacuzzi in the basement. Basement jacuzzis always rock our world.

Ace Hotel Shoreditch, London, England

The Ace Hotel isn’t just the coolest hotel in London, or England but is actually the coolest hotel in all of Europe. Each room is filled with vintage radios, records, and awesome quilts. You can actually keep any item and you will just be charged for them later, so if you see something you absolutely can’t live without then fret not, you can just take it home. When you walk into this hotel you will know you are somewhere hip by the cluster of hip Londoners you will see here typing away on their computers and sipping coffee. When your hotel is a hip local hang out then you know you’ve made a good choice.

Hotel Gotham, Manchester, England

This hotel is built in what was once a bank but that will be hard to tell when you step foot inside. There is a rooftop restaurant, which I don’t think too many banks have, and the food and drinks there are so tasty. Even if you’re not hungry, you can just sip a drink and enjoy the wonderful views of Manchester. Plus you will experience total bliss when lying in the beds at this hotel, they are by far the most comfortable beds you will ever put your butt in. If sunlight isn’t your thing, you can even get a windowless room which sounds weird but works really well in this incredible hotel.

Brown Beach Hotel, Tel Aviv, Israel

Tel Aviv is the hippest city in Israel, so it would make sense that it would be home to Israel’s hippest hotel. You will be right on the beach when you stay at this hotel and in Tel Aviv, a great place to spend your time is on the beaches. Plus the cocktails and food in this hotel make the trip worth it alone. When you go to Israel, make sure to stop and spend a night or two around here.

5 Ways to Ease Your Anxiety When You Are About to Fly on a Plane

Published

on

By

Fear of flying is not uncommon, but it can have a serious impact on your life, preventing you from visiting loved ones and taking the kind of vacations that you dream about. However, there are many different strategies that can help you overcome that fear and make you more comfortable on a plane.

Knowing more about what to expect on your first plane trip can help relieve some of the anxiety. Wear comfortable clothing, and make sure that you understand the luggage limitations of the airline. Pack whatever you want with you on the flight in your carry-on bags. Find out as well whether there will be food on the plane and if you will need to pay for it. You may want to bring your own. Arriving early can also relieve your anxiety since it will give you plenty of time to get through security and to your gate.

Below are a few more tips to help you reduce your fear of flying

1. Some form of medication can help. CBD is an excellent option for keeping you calm before and during the flight. If you are traveling internationally, make sure you check the laws in your destination country before packing your CBD, but you can still take it before departing on the leg over.

2. Fear is often accompanied by physical symptoms, which can in turn make you feel more anxious. Deep breathing is one of the best ways to help relieve these symptoms. Practicing beforehand may make it more effective.

3. Identify your specific worry. Fear is easier to deal with when you better understand its origin. You might specifically be worried about takeoff or about a particular type of accident. Knowing your exact worry can help you better prepare for it. You can also mention it to the flight attendants, who may be able to provide you with reassuring information.

4. Flight anxiety cannot always be addressed with logic, but learning more about flying may ease your worries. For example, finding out that it is the safest form of transportation or reading about what the various sounds are that you will hear during a flight can help you feel more in control.

5. Take a class. Fear of flying is so common that there are many courses available both online and in person that can help reduce your fear of flying.

Once you are on the plane, distraction is key in keeping your mind off your concerns. These days, most flights offer music, games, movies, TV shows, and more, but occasionally they do not, or your console might not work. For this reason, it’s never a bad idea to bring some backup material as well. Some airlines offer free wifi, and if yours does not, it may be worthwhile for you to pay for it. You may find that your seatmate is an entertaining conversationalist. Doing some in-flight exercises is good for both your physical and mental health. You could also spend the time planning what you’ll do at your destination.

Fear of flying can feel insurmountable, but it can be overcome. With a combination of the above approaches, you too can board a plane to the destination of your dreams.
