If you didn’t get around to treating yourself to a vacation this Summer, don’t fret! The Fall is still a fantastic time to go on a trip, and here are the best places to do it.

Fall is an underrated vacation season. People often assume that just because Summer is officially over, they’ll have to wait a year to travel again. But there are plenty of amazing places around the world that are at their most beautiful during the Fall. Not to mention you can save a few bucks as flights and hotels are often cheaper this time of year.

That’s why we talked to our experts here at Jetlaggin and compiled this list of the best places to go on vacation this fall. So stop hibernating already and get out there and travel your little heart out!

ICELAND

Iceland has quickly become one of the most popular vacation destinations among Americans. For one; it can be very cheap. But more importantly; it’s one of the most beautiful countries in the world. And the Fall is a great time to visit as the great city of Reykjavik hosts their annual Reykjavik International Film Festival. It lasts 11 days and showcases films and documentaries from over 50 countries.

And if you’re not much of a film buff, the Fall is still a great time to check out Iceland as you’re likely to catch the always breathtaking Northern Lights.

MOROCCO

Obviously, the fascinating city of Marrakesh is a huge draw when it comes to visiting Morocco and definitely worth your time. But outside of Marrakesh, the Fall season in Morocco is amazing as the days are longer and brighter, and you can take in the hot desert valleys on one side of the Atlas Mountains, and the snow-covered peaks on the other side.

And if you’re one that enjoys both history and luxury, then be sure to stay at the fabulous La Sultana hotel in Medina.

ARGENTINA

Why is the Fall a great time to visit Argentina? Well, because our Fall season is technically their Spring season! Meaning warmer temperatures, more colorful foliage, and smaller crowds. What other reason do you need?!

Oh, you still need other reasons? Well, how about the fact that the U.S. dollar currently goes farther than ever in Argentina and whale watching conditions are never better in the country as southern right whales are migrating this time of year? Yeah. That’s what I thought.

NEW ZEALAND

New Zealand is an amazing and beautiful country, but more specifically, in the Fall, Hawke’s Bay is definitely worth checking out. Every year they put on the Food and Wine Classic, which features some of the best wine and most delicious food the country has to offer. Don’t mind if I do!

COLORADO

No matter what time of year, Colorado is easily one of the most beautiful states in the country. But in the Fall it really shines. It’s truly perfect for anyone that loves hiking, biking, camping, and nature in general. And the crowds are generally smaller everywhere you go as Summer is over and the Winter ski season has yet to kick into high gear.

If you’re looking for specific recommendations, Telluride is the hidden gem of Colorado. A vibrant and energetic city with good food, a happening nightlife, but still that small mountain town vibe.

BHUTAN

Bhutan is definitely a tricky one when it comes to vacations. The Summers can be brutally hot and the Winters equally brutal, just on the freezing cold side. That’s why the Fall is the best time to see this incredible place! It’s also when the Bhutanese Tschechu Festival takes place every year where visitors can take place in the annual meditation sessions and spiritual blessings that happen at the various temples.

So if you’re looking to find a little piece of mind this Fall, Bhutan is the place for you.

TUSCANY

I mean… any time is a good time to visit Italy. But in the Fall, Tuscany is especially wonderful as the leaves create an incredible pallet of different colors on the horizon. Plus it’s a great time of year to go truffle hunting for all you truffle lovers out there.

People don’t often think if skiing when they think of New Mexico, but the southern tip of the Rocky Mountains finds itself in this beautiful state and allows for some truly amazing skiing. In Taos in particular, people come from miles around to navigate their unusually long and narrow slopes. But don’t worry, they still have plenty of bunny hills and more amateur-friendly runs for the less-experienced skier.

BIG SKY, MONTANA

Montana is one of the most beautiful states in the country and naturally their skiing is no exception. And then best skiing in Montana is easily in the aptly named city of Big Sky. The views are absolutely incredible in every direction, including a glimpse of Yellowstone National Park itself to the southeast. The slopes here start as high as 4,350 feet and there are over 5,800 acres of skiable land. Amazing.

And if you go at just the right time of year, you can hit the Jay Peak Resort water park after a morning on the slopes for a little surf and turf!
