Forbidden Baby Names From Around The World

Americans have a lot of freedoms to enjoy. So many, in fact, that most of them are taken for granted. Like the leeway they experience when naming their children. They can choose just about anything they want as long as its not an obscenity. It’s how they ended up with gems like North West and Moxie Crimefighter.

Other parts of the globe are quite the opposite when it comes to the very personal task of naming your baby. Most of these name restrictive laws in place in other countries are in the best interest of the child, with concern for potential bullying and humiliation. Others are a bit more intrusive, like banning children from being named after celebrities or fruit. Some countries even have lists of government-approved names to choose from.

Take a stroll through our list of banned baby names from around the world and see if you think they should be illegal or not.

Discussing the Future of Travel and Leisure Industry

Published

on

Hold your horses! The future of travel and leisure activities may change. Hotels.Com is offering a glimpse of how an intergalactic vacation may look like.

The COVID-19 pandemic made a catastrophic impact all across the globe. Because massive lockdowns were put in place to help halt the rapid increase of transmission, travel and leisure activities were temporarily stopped.

Honoring the National Aerospace Week

To honor the National Aerospace Week, however, Hotels.Com announces its mission to lead intergalactic space travel bookings. Avid travellers can now visit their site to check out the different space destinations that may be offered in the future.

Space travel will have to wait, however. These space destinations have to be prepared and hotels there have to be built first. Nonetheless, earlier this summer, NASA and SpaceX sent astronauts outside the planet to begin their “Launch America” initiative. Virgin Galactic featured its new spaceship design, as well.

Possibility of Travel and Leisure in Space

Josh Belkin, VP of global brand at Hotels.Com says that the site is proud to showcase the top properties on Earth. Due to the current conditions, they are now thinking of ways to make space travel and leisure activities a possibility, however. “This announcement is our hope to encourage and move forward the concept of space tourism, while revving up excitement for that aspect of the travel industry that is sure to come sometime in the near future,” he shares.

While awaiting this venture to push through, the company decides to give travellers a glimpse of what space travel and leisure can be. The company created offers that depict how travelling in space could look like. Travellers are provided with space-themed vacations complete with implements including moon-boot slippers, spacesuit robes, space snacks, Martian martinis, and robot bellhops.

20 Lucky Winners

To further complete this future project, the site is providing 20 travellers the chance of a lifetime. Twenty travellers will be awarded $250 travel gift cards that they can use in the future. Note, though, that these destinations will be on Earth, for now.

The catch, though, is that this space travel and leisure contest is only open to anyone who is named after one of the 8 planets. So, contestants must have a first, middle, or last name that is synonymous to one of those 8 planet names. This could be a problem as not many people have planet names, although with the extreme diversity in today’s world, there may be a good number of visitors with names depicting the said astronomical objects.

Summary

Travel and leisure activities may have halted due to the on-going pandemic. However, travellers need to remember that this COVID-19 situation doesn’t have to stop future vacation plans entirely. Notwithstanding the fact that domestic and international travels are greatly reduced at the moment, future ventures are still possible. If you are dreaming of intergalactic travel in the near future and you have a planet first, middle, or last name, then join the said Hotels.Com contest. You may be one of the lucky 20 who gets to receive a $250 gift card to experience a future space-themed vacation.

One of the most affected industries due to the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic is tourism. To offset the heavy financial loss, a few places like Mexico and those in the Caribbean recently reopened their borders to tourists.

Mexico, along with other places in the Caribbean, is a favorite pre-COVID-19 vacation destination for a number of tourists all around the world. Summary

Mexico’s tourism industry comprises 8.5% of the nation’s overall GDP. Last year, an approximate of 24 million tourists visited the North American nation. Despite reopening its borders to visitors in July, the country’s roster of resorts and hotels still find it difficult to alleviate the effects of the lengthy lockdown imposed by the government earlier this year. The rapid increase in COVID-19 transmission is yet to slow down and the government aims to find more effective ways to flatten the curve.

The #Come2MexicanCaribbean aims to remind travellers of the country’s long-held tourist industry and the enticing spots that used to be go-to vacation areas in the region. It is their hope that by doing this initiative, the height of tourism will come alive again once everything goes back to normal.

International Traveling On A Budget During Covid

Published

on

Most people wish they took more vacations. I know I do. But traveling is so darn expensive! How am I supposed to be able to afford a trip anywhere, let alone somewhere out of the country? Well have no fear, Jetlaggin is here! Check these five international destinations that are much cheaper than you think.

MEDELLIN, COLOMBIA

Medellin is an affordable travel destination in Colombia as it’s actually its third major behind Cartagena and Bogota. The weather is perfect nearly all year long, and ever since the days of Pablo Escobar, the city has put a strong focus on rebuilding the city and attracting a new batch of young, hip, cosmopolitan inhabitants. This means plenty of beautiful museums and art galleries. Hotels only cost around $70 a night, and meals shouldn’t cost much more than $15. These low prices allow for two people to enjoy five days in Medellin for around just $800.

MEXICO CITY, MEXICO

Some people are wary of traveling to Mexico these days. But it’s capital, Mexico City, is still a beautiful vacation destination that you can enjoy on the cheap. Whether it’s hotels, restaurants, or the many art and cultural attractions that can be found throughout the city, there are surprisingly affordable options for just about everything. Just be smart and explore your options. It’s not hard to find a hotel room for a hundred bucks a night, and you can easily live off delicious street food for your whole trip. Not to mention the public transportation system in the city is cheap and extremely accessible. You could easily take a two-person, seven-day vacation to Mexico City for around $1,000.

BARCELONA, SPAIN

Barcelona is a truly beautiful city in a beautiful country. But you’ll have to be careful when attempting to pull off an affordable trip there, as the city is flooded with tourists in the summer. Hotel rates are on the higher side, averaging around $150 per night. But there are so many things to be enjoyed in Barcelona for free, particularly the beaches. As for meals, as long as you stay away from the Gothic Quarter and Las Ramblas area, you should be able to find plenty of cheap eating options. You could enjoy a lovely four day, two-person vacation to Barcelona for around $1,100-$1,300.

SOUTHERN VIETNAM

Vietnam still has a slightly negative connotation around it these days, but make no mistake, it is a fascinating country that is ideal for a cheap vacation. Flights will be your biggest expense, as they don’t exactly run cheap. But if you’re ok living off street food for most of your trip and taking a lot of public transportation, once you’re there you don’t have to spend all that much money. Some of the best attractions revolve around exploring, including the Cu Chi Tunnels used during the Vietnam War, the city of Can Tho off the Mekong Delta, and the Cai Rang Floating Market. You can pull off a two-person, five-day vacation to Vietnam for around $1,400.

QUITO, ECUADOR

Quito is one of the often forgotten gems of South America. It offers incredible outdoor and hiking activities, historic relics and architecture from thousands of years ago, and a bustling urban area with a great nightlife scene. Also be sure to take in the Centro de Arte Contemporaneo, the Museo de la Ciudad, and the Museo Casa del Alabado. And if you have enough time, head out of the city to check out the Cotopaxi National Park for some of the best scenery around. A whole week-long, two-person vacation would cost just around $2,000.
