Why You Should Visit Hawaii

I break down each island in the chain and tell you why you should visit each one

Published

Hawaii is paradise on Earth and one of the most traveled to destinations on the planet, so why all the hype? I break down each island in the chain and tell you why you should visit each one. Check out paradise in each of its unique forms from the laid back vibes of Molokai to the big city by the beach in Oahu’s Honolulu.

Oahu

Oahu is home to the largest city in all the Hawaiian Islands and is the most populated. There is a huge military population on Oahu as the Navy has its base, Pearl Harbor. Honolulu is the island’s only “big” city and Waikiki is the party destination if you are into that sort of thing. Not all of Oahu is a party destination, as many parts of the island operate at a much slower pace. Check out the North Shore for bohemian beach towns and world-class surfing.

For some interesting attractions, check out the Polynesian Cultural Center or the sunken remains of the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor. The beaches are world-class and the resorts are massive.

Hawaii (Big Island)

The largest of the Hawaiian Islands by far is Hawaii or “the Big Island.” This massive island features almost every climate in its rich ecosystems. There is often snow on top of the mountain peaks that are surrounded by rainforests and deserts. The big island features a wide variety of terrain and activities. Check out some of the best surfing, snorkeling and hiking the world has to offer. The island is split into two main sides, the leeward side, which is very dry and arid, and the wayward side, which is the wettest region in America.

Make sure you check out Mauna Kea, the world’s tallest mountain, measured from the sea floor up. There are also two active volcanoes to check out where you can see lava flows.

Maui

The most all-around island in the chain, Maui has a little bit of everything. Every major resort has a luau and we recommend checking one out for some culture and unlimited mai tais. This island has all the outdoor activities you could ever want with some incredible hiking, surfing and snorkeling. The weather is perfect and the sun is usually shining.   Take a hike to the crater of a volcano at the Haleakala National Park.

Kauai

Known as the garden island, Kauai is easily the most beautiful of the main islands. This is also known as the lovers’ island and the retirement island as most guests are on their honeymoon or well, old. There aren’t too many spots open past 8pm and the island’s nightlife is almost non-existent. There is some of the best hiking and outdoor activities in the world.

Check out the Na Pali Coast, a rocky, 20-mile section of the island that is unreachable by car and where you’ll recognize the beginning of Jurassic Park. Take a helicopter tour of amazing waterfalls and secret beaches galore.

The most impressive feature is the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, the Waimea Canyon.

Lanai

The smallest of the Hawaiian Islands that are open to the public, Lanai is mostly owned privately by billionaire Larry Ellison (Oracle). This island used to be a huge pineapple plantation and is now home to two Four Seasons resorts. Golf is god here as two of the best courses in the US are located here.

Molokai

The most remote Hawaiian Island is Molokai, which has hardly any infrastructure and has very few visitors each year. The pace is slow here and they only operate on island time. Come here if you want to chill hardcore and not do many touristy activities, as they don’t really exist here.

Find which version of paradise you like the most and check it out. Hawaii has a little of something for everyone; you just have to find it.

The world of theme parks is about to get really exciting in the next few years. A whole slew of awesome new parks are slated to open soon and each one has something exciting. From Disney’s new Star Wars Land to Universal Studios Beijing, there is something for everyone in these fantasylands. Let’s check out the newest crop of theme parks and see why you should be so excited.

Pandora – Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Disney is set to unveil their latest creation, Pandora; the World of Avatar is an expansion to their Animal Kingdom in Florida. This groundbreaking theme park puts visitors into the world of Avatar and sets them on the planet of Pandora. James Cameron, the director who brought us Avatar has been deeply involved in the planning and execution of the new park. Expect lush forests of bioluminescent creatures and out of this world technology.

Disney’s Star Wars Land

Disney is doing it again but this time in both Florida and California, wherein 2019 it will debut the Star Wars land. Disney purchased the Star Wars rights in 2009 for a record 4 billion dollars and has been steadily exploiting the franchise. From the concept drawings, you can tell it’s going to be massive in scale and should fully immerse fans in the Star Wars universe. I know people will start lining up for these parks early so be prepared to wait a little bit.

Paramount Park, London

The long-anticipated London theme park has gone through some setbacks but it seems on track for a 2022 opening. Expect rides from Paramount icons like Star Trek, Indiana Jones, and Iron Man. This 3 billion dollar theme park better live up its enormous hype or there will be some salty Brits.

Universal Studios Beijing

Disney recently opened up in Shanghai so of course, their bitter rival Universal Studios had to open a park in the region. So enter Universal Studios Beijing, the mega-park set to open in 2020. There are plenty of fun parks in China but none are expected to be as grand as Universal Studios Beijing. They are attempting to build a park with heart and soul, so expect something huge and grandiose.

Warner Bros. World, Abu Dhabi

Expected to rely heavily on the brands biggest stars, Looney Tunes, and DC Comics. The completely indoor theme park will open in 2018 and is expected to dominate the landscape of Abu Dhabi. The UAE (United Arab Emirates) is a little overloaded with theme parks as of recent but this one is expected to be massive.

Wanda Theme Parks

China’s richest man owns Wanda Theme Parks and his goal is to make his theme park company bigger than all others. There are ten mega-theme parks expected to open in the next 5 years in China and that sounds crazy. These theme parks will put all other Chinese parks to shame as they are investing in Hollywood franchises and other huge budget trademarks.

Expect huge things from these mega parks in the next few years as the technology and budgets just keep growing and getting bigger.

Float Up To These Top US Swim Up Bars

Spend your vacation wet from the waist down and full of booze from the bar up.

What’s more Spring Break than drinking a stiff cocktail while floating in a swimming pool? I can’t think of anything, so why throw on your swim trunks and saddle up to the best swim up bars in the U.S. with help from us at Jetlaggin. We found the top swim up bars around the nation and wanted to tell you why they’re so awesome. Spend your vacation wet from the waist down and full of booze from the bar up.

REHAB BEACH – HARD ROCK VEGAS

Do I even need to continue with this list after we talk about the ultimate pool party? Forget a swim-up bar, this is a full-on swim up a nightclub in the middle of the day. The pool party at the Hard Rock casino in Las Vegas is so awesome I’ve stayed in on a Saturday Night in Vegas because I wanted to really enjoy Rehab. In the summer they throw this ultimate pool party every Thursday to Monday, so tie your suit tight and get ready for the time of your life.

SERENITY POOL – FOUR SEASONS MAUI

Quite the opposite experience from Rehab, Serenity Pool at the Four Seasons in Maui is a classy and sophisticated swim-up bar for the vacationer who wants some peace and quiet with their Pina Colada. Lucky for you, there are three different swim-up bars in three completely different pools at the Four Seasons, so if you want to party, just head over to the Adult’s Only pool.

MUD HUT SWIM-UP BAR – KALAHARI WISCONSIN DELLS

Maybe you can’t make it to the coasts, fear not my friend, and check out the Mud Hut bar in the Kalahari resorts at the wonderful Wisconsin Dells. Imagine a swim-up bar and insane water slides mixed together, yes, it is heaven. This place has it all and it’s half indoors so even when the weather is bad, you can enjoy a stiff cocktail then head down a badass waterslide. Checkmate, sorry Maui, you lose to Wisconsin again.

HOTEL BLUE – MYRTLE BEACH

Myrtle Beach is what happens when NASCAR heads to the beach so expect plenty of cutoff jeans shorts, Lynyrd Skynyrd T-Shirts, and Budweiser being slung at this hotel pool bar, but it’s a great time. These country folk knows how to get down and if the adults only pool is a rocking please do come a-knocking, you won’t regret it.

AMA BAR – THE FAIRMONT KEA LANI MAUI

This is the fancy swim up bar we all have fantasized about but never really thought was possible. This hotel is a real fancy joint so expect an upper-class type of clientele so no beer bongs dudes.

DIP AQUA BAR – NEW YORK

New York City’s only swim-up bar is obviously a hot spot, there’s only one. The Room Mate Grace in Times Square has an indoor pool that is open 24/7 but the bar is only open from 10 am to 8 pm. They host a very popular gay night on Wednesday and there is a cover charge every day of the week.

Make The Most Of A Rainy Tropical Getaway

So you finally made it to the beach for the tropical vacation that is supposed to put the cold rainy days behind you, warm your soul and stick in your memories forever. You have been counting down until this day for months and now it’s finally here. You can go out and relax on the beach, maybe sip a pina colada or read a book. You put your swimsuit on, apply your suntan lotion and then open up the windows to take a quick look at the picturesque view from your beautiful hotel room only to see one thing…heavy showers. The beach is currently being pummeled by raindrops. So vacation ruined, right?

Well not so fast. Here are some great tips to rescue your rainy trip to the beach and keep your vacation the relaxing experience you envisioned when this getaway was booked.

Hit the spa

So you booked this trip to relax, but mother nature is playing hardball. Show her who’s boss by relaxing even harder at the spa.

It’s hard to be super bummed about the rain when you’re in the middle of a deep-tissue massage. In fact, it’s hard to be bummed about anything at all. Spas are always a great choice, even if it’s sunny outside. But when it’s raining, the spa with the white noise of the rain is truly a blissful experience.

Go Sightseeing

Every place you visit, no matter where it is, usually has some indoor attractions for you to check out. You know you wanted to see these mesmerizing museums or amazing aquariums anyway, so now is the perfect opportunity.

Usually, when it’s sunny out, you feel bad standing for hours indoors, which makes it very easy to miss a lot of amazing must-see spectacles. So think of it as a blessing, because without the rain you might have never gone to visit these indoor spectacles.

Watch a Movie

Sometimes the best way to beat a rainy day on vacation is the same way you beat a rainy day at home. Go watch a new film on the big screen and enjoy yourself. It’s not your fault that it’s raining outside, so don’t beat yourself up, just go out and have some fun. The movies are always a fun experience and some hotels even have free movie screenings on days like this to help pass the time.

Eat Around the City

Open up Yelp or another food-based app and go eat your way around the city. Eating is always a fun activity and there is probably plenty of exciting, new local food for you to chomp down. Use the rain as an excuse to escape your hotel and ditch the room service in favor of something much more interesting and exciting. Ignite your palate with the magic of local cuisine.

Stay in bed

Maybe it’s a good day to just do nothing. Doing nothing is one of the easiest activities to do. You don’t have to get up and run around all crazy every day of your vacation. Vacations are all about treating yourself, so treat yourself in any way that you see fit.
