Las Vegas isn’t only for gamblers, drinkers and partiers, there are some serious adventures waiting just outside the city limits. Next time you venture to Sin City, try one of these awesome day trips and skip the casino for a day. Your wallet may thank us for suggesting such fun filled day trips. From beautiful National Parks to driving racecars, these adventures are great alternatives to Las Vegas’ adult endeavors.
Everyone’s first day trip from Las Vegas should be the Grand Canyon. This incredible natural beauty is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and is truly a magical place. Escape the neon overload of Vegas and visit one truly spectacular feast for the senses. The air is clean, the sites are amazing and the majesty will have you on a natural high for days. The Grand Canyon is a long five-hour drive from Sin City but its well worth it. If you really want a unique and memorable experience, you can get a helicopter tour form Vegas for around $300 a person.
Everyone’s second day trip from Vegas should be to the Hoover Dam. This massive man made dam is a marvel of modern day science and pretty cool up close. That’s not all the area has to offer, check out the Railroad museum or go zip lining in nearby Bootleg Canyon. I definitely recommend a tour of the facilities to really get a grip of how huge this dam really is. Luckily the dam is only a short 45-minute drive from Vegas.
Maybe some water activities is more your speed, in that case, check out Lake Mead. A short 45-minute drive from Vegas, visitors can enjoy all the water sports to beat that incredible desert heat. Great fishing and boating on this lake and you can even try scuba diving here.
Red Rock Canyon
A short half-hour drive form Sin City is beautiful Red Rock Canyon, a destination that looks more like mars than the Nevada desert. Rock climbers and hikers are in heaven in this ever-expanding desert. Try and reach the 8,000-foot summit of the tallest mountain in the region, La Madre.
Zion National Park
If beauty is your goal, then Zion National Park is for you. A manageable 3-hour drive from Vegas is the heaven on Earth called Zion. From canyons to rivers and forests in between, Zion has a little of everything for the outdoorsy type. Hikers will be happy with hundreds of trails and over 280 types of wildlife roaming around. This is easily one of the greatest places I’ve ever been.
Pahrump is know for two things, a great winery scene and the Spring Mountain Motor Resort. I advise you don’t do both in the same day or at least do the raceway first. Try your hand at the official Corvette Academy, where adults can drive actual racecars on a closed track. Speed demons take notice; there is no speed limit here, so get your race fantasy out on a safe course. What other vacation destinations offer you this kind of opportunity?
